About the event
Women, Safety & Community
Presented by Sgt Mang (Yu) Parry — Leongatha Police
Join SBWN for an important and practical community conversation with Sergeant Mang (Yu) Parry from Leongatha Police. With over 11 years in policing, Sgt Parry brings a diverse background having worked across the CBD, inner and outer eastern suburbs, outer southern suburbs, the Bass Coast, and now South Gippsland — offering a grounded local perspective on the issues impacting women in our region.
This informative session will cover:
The core functions of police and how policing supports community wellbeing
Getting help and reporting: when to use 000, the Police Assistance Line (PAL), your local police station, and Crime Stoppers — and how to best use each service
Most common local crime themes in South Gippsland (based on the most recent stats)
Personal safety and security: practical steps for everyday life
Dealing with aggressive behaviours and staying safe in challenging situations
Home and office security: proactive measures to protect your space and property
Scams and fraud awareness: how to spot red flags and protect yourself online and offline
What to expect when contacting police, including how police respond when there are no officers on duty at the local station, plus an overview of station locations across South Gippsland
This is a chance to feel informed, supported and connected — and to ask questions in a respectful setting.
Hosted at Fleet Wines (Leongatha)
We’ll be gathering at Fleet Wines, a beautiful local venue with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Dinner is included (catered on the night), and Fleet Wines will be available to purchase throughout the evening.
Everyone is welcome — members and guests.
