Strong Local

Communities

Guest Speaker Ruth Rogan

Every community has its own unique resources; there is always knowledge and wisdom anchored in place, deep trust and local leadership, relationships and networks, skills and financial assets. Community Foundations are a mechanism by which a community brings these resources together and leverages them for amplified local impact.

Ruth is going to tell the story of the Mirboo North & District Community Foundation and how over the last 14 years it has successfully enabled the district around Mirboo North to build capacity, invest in its own development, seize opportunities and address challenges collectively.

Ruth will also touch on one of those challenges: the experience, response and recovery of the Mirboo North community from the storm event last February.

Originally from Ireland, Ruth and her husband moved to Mirboo North from London in 2012, to raise their young family in the area that her husband grew up in. Community connections quickly developed through school, kinder and a desire to be part of creating local events and community projects. While Ruth’s professional background is in law, she developed a passion for community capacity which led to her taking up the role of Executive Officer at the Mirboo North & District Community Foundation in 2016.
